After FIS ski competition in Poland (6th – 7th January) it became clear all three Lithuanian athletes who will be competing in Pyeongchang 2018 Olympic Winter Games. Modestas Vaičiulis and Marija Kaznačenko were joined by Mantas Strolia.
On the first day, athletes competed in the Sprint classical style. After the finish line, two Lithuanian athletes were standing on the podium – Mantas Strolia and Modestas Vaičiulis. Mantas Strolia Managed to win a gold medal while Modestas Vaičiulis won the bronze.
On the next day 15km Classic style competition the best of Lithuanian skiers was Tautvydas Strolia in 9th position. Mantas Strolia and Deividas Kliševičius respectively shared 12th and 13th positions and Stepan Terenjev was 18th.
After 33 days left until the Winter Olympic games in South Korea, our athletes completed the selection and started to prepare for Olympic starts.
Selection criteria – the lowest International Ski Federation (FIS) score possible, which is calculated from three best starts from the races. Seven Lithuanian skiers competed for one place in the Olympic team, and the most persistent fight was between Mantas Strolia, Tautvydas Strolia and Stepan Terentjev. The minimal, 5 FIS ski points overpoise won Mantas Strolia, who won the right to take part in his 2nd Olympic Winter Games. Modestas Vaičiulis and Marija Kaznačenko will join him.
